Limited spots are available and sign up will be released in the Convention Guidebook app on 4/12/2023!
What to Expect? This space will feature a mixed modality simulation lab with a combination of virtual and manikin-based simulations and will provide you with evaluation data about what was learned in the sessions. Additionally, the space will showcase new, exciting product innovations, which we’re eager to co-develop with the nursing students who will eventually use them.
Our simulation labs will provide hands-on opportunities to practice your skills & challenge your clinical judgment across a range of modalities. In the learning sessions, you will be invited to test new ideas and prototypes being developed for the future of nursing education.
Simulation Sessions: THURSDAY AND FRIDAY 11:00 am - 12:00 pm, 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm, 2 pm - 3 pm SATURDAY 9:00 am - 10:00 am, 10:30 am - 11:30 am Manikin Simulations: Challenge yourself in caring for patients in a medical-surgical unit with your friends at NSNA. We will prepare students for simulation, run a short patient care scenario and lead students through a debrief about their experience. This is a great way to challenge yourself in a new environment and see some of the latest technology in simulation. This experience is intend- ed as a learning experience and all levels of students are welcome to join. We will work together to care for the patients and have a lot of fun as well!
THURSDAY AND FRIDAY 11:00 am - 12:00 pm, 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm, 2 pm - 3 pm SATURDAY 9:00 am - 10:00 am, 10:30 am - 11:30 am Virtual Simulations: Grab a friend and challenge yourself to complete a virtual patient scenario of caring for a medical-surgical patient. All levels of students are welcome to experience this learning environment. You can complete the scenario as many times as you like and get feedback each time about how to improve your care for the patient. In this experience, you will also be some of the first students to provide feedback about the NextGen vSim program and see a piloted program for enhanced evaluation measures.
THURSDAY 8:00 am - 9:00 am, 9:00 am - 10:00 am, 10:00 am - 11:00 am FRIDAY 8:00 am - 9:00 am, 9:00 am - 10:00 am, 10:00 am - 11:00 am RQI for Nursing Practice Sessions: We are excited to have RQI for Nursing Practice Sessions join us as well! Come join Resuscitation Quality Improvement Partners (RQIP) in Laerdal Innovation Space and practice your CPR skills utilizing the RQI solution! You never know when you will need to use your CPR skills and maintaining competence of those skills can be challenging for all healthcare providers. The RQI Simulation Station and the program will give attendees an opportunity to perform simulated skills, view real-time outcomes, and see how RQI improves the quality of CPR education. RQI Open Sessions with no signup required are also offered Thursday and Friday 11:00 am - 3 pm, and Saturday 9:00 am - 11:30 am.
Students Focus Sessions: THURSDAY: 3:15 pm - 4:15 pm Treating Multiple Patients in VR: Learning Potentials (20 students max): Laerdal and WK are currently promoting vrClinicals, a VR product that simulates a full-day clinical in a virtual hospital, challenging students to use their clinical judgment skills to treat multiple patients, including prioritizing and delegating. In this session, students will get a taste of Laerdal’s newest education solution vrClinicals before it is even released for purchasing. Come experience a portion of the full-day clinical in a virtual hospital where we will challenge you to use your clinical judgment skills, treat multiple patients, and engage your skills in prioritization and delegation of care. During this session, students will not only experience the vrClinicals solution and provide patient care as a team but we are also seeking student feedback as we look ahead to how it could be improved for the future.
THURSDAY: 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm Including a Multitude of Voices (20 students max): Laerdal is making great strides in the application of AI (artificial intelligence) to create rich voices for our simulated patients. In this session, we invite students to test out our new conversational AI voices, as we together explore the question: How might we leverage conversational AI to not only create rich, and expressive voices for our simulated patients, but also better reflect the diversity of patients and the DEI aspects of how you communicate with a patient?
FRIDAY: 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm Learning Anywhere, Anytime, and Anyhow (20 students max): Laerdal is committed to delivering learning solutions that meet the current and future needs of nursing students. The goal of this session is to ensure that we’re on the right track in this respect, making a reality check on how we can create the most value for nursing students today as well as tomorrow. To help foster a great conversation, we’ll bring an interactive prototype, showcasing a vision of what the future of skill training and competence building could be for nursing students. This product is not on the market yet, but very early exploration.
SATURDAY: 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm RQI for Nursing (20 students and faculty max): Resuscitation Quality Improvement Partners (RQIP) is a leader in the digital space, delivering high-quality competency-based education through self-guided didactic e-learning and simulation. During this session, we will explore the RQI Simulation Station and program, review the outcomes of RQI participants during the NSNA convention, and see how RQI improves the quality of resuscitation education and training. The National League for Nursing and The American Association of Colleges of Nursing have endorsed the utilization of competency-based education focused on outcomes rather than structure or process. This helps to prioritize learner development and mastery of skills to properly prepare students and create a more confident and competent future workforce. RQI is an excellent solution for establishing and maintaining competency in high-quality CPR skills. This session is open to faculty and students.
SATURDAY: 2:45 pm - 3:45 pm Treating Multiple Patients in VR: Learning Potentials (20 students max): Laerdal and WK are currently promoting vrClinicals, a VR product that simulates a full-day clinical in a virtual hospital, challenging students to use their clinical judgment skills to treat multiple patients, including prioritizing and delegating. Faculty Sessions (No Contact Hours): FRIDAY: 4:45 pm - 5:45 pm Measuring Student Competency (12 faculty max): This session invites faculty for an interactive session on how best to measure and track student competencies over time. Nursing education is undergoing big changes, both in terms of accreditation and innovation, Laerdal is excited to showcase a brand-new prototype of Competency Measurement, based on our extensive portfolio of sim products and student performance data. In this session, we hope to get faculty feedback around a new tool for Competency Measurement and give faculty an opportunity to share what data is meaningful for the evaluation of student performance.
